Rafael has not featured for Man United’s first-team since an FA Cup tie against Yeovil Town at the start of the year but he has kept his head down and scored a great goal on Tuesday night.
Picking up the ball inside United’s half, the 24-year-old sees the Spurs keeper off his line and dinks the ball over him.
It was a fantastic strike and one that van Gaal think will give Rafael confidence as he looks to get back into the squad.
Speaking about Rafael, van Gaal said: ”Rafa played a very good match and scored a wonderful goal and because of that he can grip again his confidence.”
The Dutchman’s comments will delight fans who have clambered for Rafael’s return to the starting XI.
He is a firm favourite at Old Trafford but many thought his days might be numbered at the club following his extended absence. However, Rafael made the substitute’s bench against Arsenal on Monday and these latest comments will give him hope of featuring in the Premier League clash against Spurs on Sunday.
