Manchester United loan watch: Nani scores again

Manchester United loan watch: Nani scores again

Nani completed 90 minutes and was on the score sheet again as Sporting secured a 4-1 win over Vitoria Guimaraes. Nani’s goal came in the 75th minute from the penalty spot. The win puts Sporting third in Primeira Liga, six points behind Porto in second place.

Tom Cleverley’s run of three wins on the spin was brought to an end as Aston Villa slumped to a 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Swansea. Cleverley did not play a huge part in the game though as he was withdrawn on 25 minutes due to a slight injury.

Javier Hernandez’ Bernabeu frustrations continued as he remained an unused substitute in Real Madrid’s 2-1 defeat at the hands of Barcelona. The diminutive Mexican may fear the writing is on the wall for him at Madrid as Carlo Ancelotti opted to bring on Jese Rodriguez when chasing the game. The result gives Barcelona a bit of breathing space at the top of La Liga.

Ben Pearson’s run of victories with Barnsley came to an end as they played out a 0-0 stalemate with Leyton Orient during last week. Pearson completed the full 90 minutes of the game. Barnsley then picked up another draw at the weekend, this time drawing 1-1 with Preston North End but Pearson sat this game out with a slight knock. These results leave Barnsley one point outside the play-off places in League One.

Ben Amos and Bolton continued their erratic form with a defeat and draw in the last week. Ipswich ran out 1-0 winners over Neil Lennon’s side during last week before playing out a 1-1 draw with Wigan at the weekend. Saidy Janko missed out on both matches. Bolton’s unpredictable form sees them sitting 17th in the Championship.

Derby County made it five games without a win by picking up two defeats last week and Jesse Lingard played a part in both games. Lingard was brought on in the 70th minute to replace Jamie Ward as Derby slipped to a 1-0 midweek defeat at fellow Championship high-flyers Middlesbrough. Lingard then started the following game against Wolves and Derby were on the wrong side of a 2-0 scoreline this time. Their run of results has seen Derby slip from the top of the Championship table to fifth.

Sam Johnstone picked up four points with Preston North End last week. He completed 90 minutes and kept a clean sheet during the Tuesday night 2-0 win over Peterborough. Preston followed this game up with a 1-1 draw against Barnsley and Johnstone again completed 90 minutes.

Angelo Henriquez’ return to the Dinamo Zagreb side coincided with a return to winning ways as they picked up a comfortable 4-1 win over Istra 1961. He scored a goal in the 32nd minute to put Dinamo 2-0 ahead and was substituted after 66 minutes.

Guillermo Varela completed 90 minutes as Real Madrid Castilla made it four defeats in a row with a 2-1 loss at the hands of Rayo Vallecano II. This poor run of form has resulted in Castilla dropping from the top of the league down to seventh but they are only six points behind leaders Huesca.

Will Keane suffered a frustrating week as injury forced him to sit out Sheffield Wednesday’s 3-0 defeat to Wolves and 3-2 win over Rotherham.
