Germany’s World Cup winner Sami Khedira will leave Real Madrid at the end of the season with Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal all rumoured to be interested in securing his signature.
Khedira’s season has been blighted by injury while Carlo Ancelotti has also preferred to play Toni Kroos and Luka Modric in his midfield.
However, the 27-year-old remains a top class player and would improve any team when fully fit.
Khedira confirmed he will leave Madrid at the end of the season but denied reports he has already agreed a move to Schalke.
Speaking about his future, Khedira said: “It’s not a decision against Real Madrid. I want to start a new stage in my career and continue to grow.
“There’s no agreement with anyone nor do I have a preference to go anywhere at the moment. I’ve had a magnificent time in a magnificent team. I’ll do everything I can to keep helping the team in the coming weeks.”
Man United have history with Khedira having had a €40m bid for him rejected by Madrid last year. The midfielder has a wealth of experience and Louis van Gaal would be wise to go for him again in the summer if Madrid are willing to let him go.
However, United will need to be wary of the question marks over his long-term fitness. The situation is similar to that of Arturo Vidal’s, who was rumoured to be close to a move to Old Trafford last term before van Gaal pulled out of the deal due to concerns over the player’s knee.
