Manchester United are set for another big shake-up in the summer transfer window in order to help Louis van Gaal build the squad he wants.
Last year over £150m was spent on six new signings and 14 left the club either on loan or a permanent deal, so there was a big renewal within the squad.
Now, James Ducker of The Times reports that the following players are all likely to leave in the summer: Anders Lindegaard Ben Amos, Rafael Da Silva, possibly Jonny Evans, Tom Cleverley, Nick Powell, Nani, Javier Hernandez, Angelo Henriquez and Will Keane. That’s ten players in total which would once again be a huge transition of players.
It’s a long list of potential exits but if van Gaal wants to create his own title winning squad, there has to be zero sentiment and his treatment of Rafael this year is indicative of how unaffected by existing sentiment the United boss is. He’ll use the player he feels is best for that position, not simply somebody the fans want to see.
United’s squad was always in need of re-decoration even when Sir Alex Ferguson was still in charge and the process really began last year. Now, with a full season under his belt, van Gaal is well aware of who he wants and if Ducker’s list is anything to go by, there are plenty of players who aren’t going to be here come the start of the 2015/16 Premier League season.
