Manchester United have confirmed Owen Hargreaves will play in the upcoming Legends match against Bayern Munich at Old Trafford this summer.
Hargreaves joined Man United in 2007 and played a big part in the club’s Premier League and Champions League double.
However, injuries severely limited the midfielder’s time on the pitch and he left United in 2011.
He eventually joined arch-rivals Manchester City but only made one appearance for them before retiring at the end of the season.
When fit and ready, Hargreaves was a fine player who commanded the middle of the park but injuries ruined what was a promising career at Old Trafford.
He will play for both sides in the charity match but he can hardly be considered a ‘legend’ for United after he criticised their medical staff before joining City.
United stood by him through his long spells out of the starting XI which made the comments all the more hurtful. It will be interesting to see what type of reception he gets on his return, assuming he doesn’t get injured in the warm-up.
