Ilkay Gundogan has been left out of Borussia Dortmund’s match squad this weekend with a sore throat according to the club.
Gundogan has reportedly been unable to train with the first-team but there is certainly a hint of good timing with his withdrawal following stories that have spread in the last 72 hours linking him with a move to Manchester United.
It all started with Der Westen in Germany who reported Gundogan didn’t want to sign a contract extension and Man United were down as favourites to sign him.
Then, less than a day later, reports exploded across Europe from both Sky Germany and Sky Sports in England saying Gundogan was going to join United.
So, the cynical eye may look at Gundogan’s absence from the match day squad as a mighty convenience given the stories that are now circulating about his future. One thing it certainly won’t do is help cool rumours of a move to Manchester and we’re expecting there to be more developments as the week goes on.
