Borussia Dortmund have confirmed Ilkay Gundogan will not sign a contract extension past his current deal which expires in June 2016.
Dortmund now have a decision to make as to either selling Gundogan for a fee this summer or letting him leave the club on a free next year.
Given that they lost star striker Robert Lewandowski on a free to Bayern Munich and Mario Gotze on an under market value release clause, it would come as a big surprise if they decide to let Gundogan leave on a free too.
News of Gundogan not signing an extension comes less than a week after reports from Sky Germany said a deal for him to join Manchester United was close and it all looks to be moving very quickly with regards to his future at the club.
Louis van Gaal has already made it clear he is on the lookout for a new midfielder in the summer transfer window and everything is now pointing towards an exit for Gundogan, so we expect reports linking him with Man United to continue gathering pace.
