Last summer if you had asked fans to name one Dutch player who they thought would join Manchester United in the future, Kevin Strootman would probably have been top of most lists.
Louis van Gaal is a known admirer of the AS Roma midfielder and despite his on-going, career threatening injuries which have plagued him for the last 18 months, there is still the possibility he could move to Man United in the future.
It all depends on whether Louis van Gaal is confident he has the ability to overcome his injuries and return to his best form, the sort of form which saw Van Gaal make him captain of Holland aged just 23.
An agreement was announced today that Memphis Depay will be joining Man United and Strootman sent some congratulations to his compatriot. In response, United fans also had a message for Strootman as well about his future:
United fans certainly would like to see a fully fit Strootman join and if he had never suffered his knee injury, he would probably already be a Man United player but Van Gaal has correctly refrained from moving too soon for him in case his injury proves too much to overcome.
Strootman suffered a new set back this season which ruled him out for the rest of the year, justifying Van Gaal’s trepidation, but it will be interesting to see what develops over the next couple of transfer windows and whether Strootman does indeed follow Depay to United.
