Following the news that Michael Carrick will miss the rest of the season due to injury, Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal confessed he is on the lookout for a right-sided midfielder in his press conference last week.
A club of United’s stature certainly can’t have Wayne Rooney playing in midfield if they are to challenge for domestic and European honours.
Ilkay Gundogan has been linked with a move to Old Trafford along with players such as Paul Pogba and Marco Verratti.
We asked our Twitter followers who they would like to see in the middle of the park next season:
@PeoplesPerson_ Pogba. Do everything to get him, he shouldn't go to CFC or city

@PeoplesPerson_ pogba is the best available but Id hate to see united shell out £60m+ on a player they let go for free.

@PeoplesPerson_ pogba, we need a midfielder who can take on players and make a difference when teams defend in numbers, we have no one

@peoplesperson_ Pogba + Gundogan. A combined fee of £80m would sort out out MF in 5+ years.

@PeoplesPerson_ NOT Verratti. Doesn't solve anything. We have Herrera for that job – very similar & Ander probably edges it anyway.

@PeoplesPerson_ The future Ballon d'Or winner, Paul Pogba.

Pogba seems to be the most popular choice despite the fact that he left the club under a cloud as a young player in 2012.
However, the Frenchman undoubtedly has the potential to become the world’s best midfielder and he would go a long way to making United a force in the Premier League once again.
Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea and Manchester City are also said to be interested in Pogba and United will face stiff competition for his signature. If they do pull off the signing, it would make a real statement of intent across Europe and beyond.
