After what was a very busy few weeks with Ilkay Gundogan, it all went quiet in both the British and foreign press.
However, Mundo Deportivo in Spain has now boldly claimed that Gundogan has passed a medical examination in Munich which was organised by Barcelona.
The reports come as a surprise given that Barcelona are under a transfer embargo and could not sign Gundogan until January 2016.
Also, as he is still under contract with Dortmund then he would have needed permission from the club in order to undergo any medical examination. That being said, they have already confirmed he is leaving the club this summer so they will probably be happy to help find the best paying suitor.
Mundo Deportivo go on to say Gundogan is excited and will complete the move at the start of next year.
If Gundogan has indeed passed a medical examination, it would not be his final one before any transfer given how far away January 2016 is.
A more realistic reason behind a medical would be to make sure he has recovered from his major back issues which took him out of the game for over a year.
Now that Xavi is leaving Barcelona, the Spanish club will certainly be looking for a new midfielder and if Mundo Deportivo reports are anything to go by, Gundogan may be that replacement.
