Dani Alves has explained why he chose to sign a new deal at Barcelona in a video posted on social media.
Yesterday, it was officially announced that Alves had agreed a new contract and would be staying at Barcelona, contrary to how it had been perceived in the wider press.
Since winning the treble with the Catalan club, Alves has had a change of heart and wishes to remain in Spain with his beloved Barcelona.
“Following my heart and those of the people that love me,” Alves said.
“Thanks to all of you for making me so happy at this club.”
The Brazilian had held a press conference last month in which he claimed that the club had disrespected him and left his future with the club in the balance, but that seemed to change swiftly.
Manchester United were put on alert following the press conference that appeared to be a “come and get me” plea from Alves.
He was seen by many as an excellent option given United’s struggles at the position for some time now. Rafael looks set to leave Old Trafford while Antonio Valencia was only seen as a temporary solution at the position, despite stepping in admirably when needed.
United will have to tun their attention to someone different as Alves looks set to possibly end his career at the Camp Nou.
