Manchester United have rekindled their interest in Nathaniel Clyne following Dani Alves’ contract renewal at Barcelona, according to ESPN.
Alves had been linked a move to Old Trafford for a number of months before he committed his future to Barcelona this week.
Man United were waiting to see how the Brazilian’s situation panned out but they will now turn their attentions back to Clyne following the renewal.
Liverpool, who had a bid rejected for the Englishman last month, will also ramp up their attempts to sign him.
Alves would have been an excellent addition given his vast experience but Clyne may be a wiser option in the long-term.
At 24-years-old, Clyne has his best years ahead of him whereas Alves may only be able to perform at an acceptable level for another year or two.
Meanwhile, Rafael is still at United but van Gaal often left him out of the squad last term and seems to have lost faith in his ability.
