Andy Cole believes that Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema would be a perfect fit at Manchester United with Wayne Rooney as his partner up front.
Benzema has been linked with a move to Man United this summer and the club have reportedly asked about the Frenchman’s availability in the hope of including him in a deal for David de Gea.
The Frenchman has scored 87 times for the Spanish giants since he moved there in 2009 from Lyon. He has amassed 188 appearances for the club in that time but might find himself on the fringes as new manager Rafael Benitez looks to play Cristiano Ronaldo as his number nine next season.
Cole thinks that United could do a lot worse than signing Benzema as a partner for Rooney.
“I like him [Benzema],” Cole said. “He’s a very good player and played at the highest level for years.
‘He’s done it at international level and (you) look at that and say that could definitely work, him and (Wayne) Rooney.”
Benzema is the quintessential no.9 and the player has all the qualities to be a success at Old Trafford.
He has been the target of criticism due to his supposed lack of goals but his contribution in overall play is second to only a few players in world football. If Robin van Persie’s time is up and United are in the market for a striker then Benzema would be a fantastic signing, provided he adjusts to the more physical nature of the Premier League.
