Manchester United are expect to announce the signing of Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin on Wednesday.
The Mirror’s Simon Mullock says Ed Woodward sealed the deal for Schneiderlin on Friday after speaking with his representatives in Paris.
He goes on to say a £25m deal for Schneiderlin will be officially completed on 1 July when the transfer window officially opens, meaning the Frenchman can be registered as a United player.
United’s reliance on Michael Carrick in the defensive midfield role was a major problem last season and the arrival of Schneiderlin would be a fantastic signing.
The 25-year-old could slot perfectly into the No.6 midfield role and having had years of experience in the Premier League with Southampton, he would be able to settle into the club very quickly.
Schneiderlin would be a very smart buy from Van Gaal given his suitability to the role which United desperately need to strengthen and a real statement of intent with other clubs such as Arsenal also interested.
Last summer, Van Gaal spent £150m and began to piece his own squad together and it is now really starting to take shape.
