Manchester United transfer roundup: Louis van Gaal confirms deal for Matteo Darmian

Here is the latest Manchester United transfer news and gossip.

Friday was a hugely busy day as far as Man United were concerned, with important developments emerging regarding a number of players.

The day started with news that Torino full-back Matteo Darmian was travelling to Manchester to finalise a move to Old Trafford.

This was later confirmed by Louis van Gaal, who was speaking at a press conference to unveil new signing Memphis Depay. The experienced coach also refused to rule out reports linking Robin van Persie with a move to Fenerbahce.

As for Memphis, he exuded confidence in the conference. He indicated that he sees himself as a striker, meaning United may not need to find a replacement for van Persie after all, and also stated that the team can win trophies next term.

In terms of outgoings, Darmian’s arrival may spell the end of Rafael’s time at United. The Brazilian was frozen out by van Gaal towards the end of last season and Galatasaray have reportedly indicated their desire to sign him.

Finally, reports from Spain claimed that Iker Casillas has resolved his issues with Porto and that a transfer from Real Madrid can now take place. This may mean that David de Gea moves to Madrid sooner rather than later.
