Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard delighted with goal against Barcelona

Manchester United youngster Jesse Lingard has revealed his delight after scoring in the 3-1 win against Barcelona on Saturday.

Lingard came off the substitute’s bench after an hour and scored just a few minutes later to double Man United’s advantage.

It was a special moment for the 22-year-old, who spent time on loan at Derby County last season after missing the majority of the campaign due to a serious injury.

Lingard was happy that his hard work paid off against Barcelona but also praised his teammates following the victory.

Speaking after the game, he said: “I feel very happy. We had a game plan, stuck to it and won today. I wanted to add goals to my game…it’s good to get off the mark.

“I’ve worked hard to get where I am. I’ve suffered a lot of setbacks but I’m glad I’m here now.

“Most people get injured but it is how you react. I went to Derby, got a few goals and now I’m here today scoring again.”

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger criticised United this week for their spending in the transfer market and what that might mean for the youngsters at the club so it was particularly satisfying to see Lingard score against Barcelona. Tyler Blackett assisted the goal and Adnan Januzaj wrapped up the win with a strike late on. It is safe to say that United’s youth traditions are alive and well.
