Louis van Gaal intent on delaying Angel di Maria’s move to Paris St Germain – report

When Louis van Gaal was pictured smiling alongside club record signing Angel di Maria last summer, the last thing he would have expected was for him to leave less than 12 months later.

Yet, that’s the situation Van Gaal finds himself in and thanks to Di Maria’s actions so far, it’s not been an altogether pleasant journey.

The 27-year-old refused to join Man United on their pre-season tour amid the heavy PSG speculation and The Mirror are reporting that Van Gaal is determined to delay Di Maria’s move to the French capital because he is angry at the way he has treated United.

Van Gaal is right to be frustrated but the idea of trying to delay his exit simply to get some sweet revenge all sounds a bit like a schoolboy playground argument, a tit-for-tat spat between two feuding kids.

United, and Van Gaal, will surely not let emotions come into a transfer but one thing which delaying any deal could do is help drive the price up a little bit.

Reports suggest United are close to agreeing a £45m deal for Di Maria but he cost £59.7m only 12 months beforehand, so in an ideal world Ed Woodward would be getting more for him.

Is that likely, regardless of how long they delay the deal and leave PSG waiting? After the season he had at United, maybe not.

Di Maria’s exit from United this summer looks like an inevitability at this stage which is a real shame but the South American star really jut doesn’t want to be at the club, so it is the right idea to move him on.

What do you think is the best price Man United are going to get for Angel di Maria this summer?
