Manchester United transfer roundup: Hristo Stoichkov urges Pedro to stay at Barcelona

Here is the latest Manchester United transfer news and gossip.

Man United’s pursuit of Pedro continued to do the rounds on Tuesday after Barcelona confirmed he had asked to leave the club, putting the ball firmly in United’s court now if they want to complete the move.

“Pedro asked us for the transfer,” said Barcelona technical secretary Robert Fernández.

“We are not going to accept less than €30m for him, it’s not negotiable.”

There was also some damning comments on the subject from Barcelona legend Hristo Stoichkov.

The Bulgarian told Pedro he should avoid a move to United as Louis van Gaal would “destroy” him. It seems as if Stoichkov is still bitter after van Gaal presided over his departure from Barcelona in 1998.

Dani Alves is still hopeful that Pedro will stay at Barcelona despite widespread reports suggesting his potential move to Old Trafford is all but done.

However, Manchester City have reportedly entered the race for the Spaniard at the eleventh hour. It may just be an effort to ramp up his price but it is worrying nonetheless.

If United do miss out on Pedro, SuperDeporte claim they have lined up Paris Saint-Germain forward Ezequiel Lavezzi as an alternative.

As for incomings, United legend Peter Schmeichel believes Hugo Lloris should be brought in from Tottenham Hotspur if David de Gea leaves the club.
