Manchester United ‘very interested’ in signing Harry Kane

Manchester United are monitoring the availability of Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane, according to a report from the Independent.

The Independent say that Man United will test Mauricio Pochettino’s resolve over Kane with some ‘discreet enquiries’ over the coming period.

Kane, who scored 31 goals in all competitions last term, has been widely linked with a switch to Old Trafford this summer, with United reportedly having had a £40 million bid rejected earlier in the window.

Now, both the Independent and other sources are reporting that United are set to test Tottenham’s position over Kane with further enquiries.

With Louis van Gaal intent on his side challenging on all fronts this season, bringing in reinforcements up front is something fans would love to see.

However, the possibility of agreeing a deal like this with Tottenham is always questionable. Any deal for the newly-capped England international would mean entering into negotiations with Daniel Levy which is likely to be a long, complicated and ultimately expensive process.

Despite Kane’s impressive goalscoring record last term, £40 million for a player who has only experienced one prolific season in the Premier League is debatable to say the least.

There also exists the question of what would happen to the likes of James Wilson and Javier Hernandez should a deal for Kane be completed.

Wayne Rooney‘s position is now once again untouchable given his ‘captain privileges’, so Kane would more than likely come in and be his back-up. Would United really spend £40m on that sort of player?
