Mata found space on the left hand side and slid through an inch perfect pass to Januzaj who left Micah Richards for dead with a smart move inside onto his right foot before a kind deflection sent his shot in off the post.
For a player who hadn’t started for United in six months, Januzaj’s composure inside Villa’s penalty area was magnificent and he deserved to get a goal after that play.
Speaking to Sky Sports after Man United’s 1-0 victory, Van Gaal said: “We scored a wonderful goal, with a fantastic pass from Juan Mata and the finish from Adnan.”
It really was a fantastic goal from United. Up until that point, there weren’t many chances in front of goal but a moment of magic from Mata an assured finish from Januzaj made all the difference.
Januzaj grabbed his opportunity against Aston Villa and although Van Gaal will shy away from praising him too much so as to keep him grounded, he’ll be delighted with the young Belgian’s performance now that he has forced his way into the team selection again.
