Sergio Romero – Has been very impressive so far and if David de Gea isn’t going to play in the Premier League, there’s little to no chance he’ll be used in the Champions League as it would cup tie him if Manchester United qualify.
Daley Blind – Was actually very good against Aston Villa, which was pleasantly surprising.
Chris Smalling – He has massively matured over the last six months so. Was dominant on Friday.
Matteo Darmian – Will go out on a limb to say Darmian has been United’s best performer so far this season.
Morgan Schneiderlin – The new midfield marshal.
Ander Herrera – Come on Louis, start him. United could do with his passing on what should be a fast paced game.
Ashley Young – Left out for Aston Villa but Van Gaal will want him to start for his extra defensive cover.
Juan Mata – Was insatiable against Villa and deserves to start.
Wayne Rooney – Quite the opposite to Mata, Rooney was woeful at Villa Park but he’s currently using his captain’s privileges to get a starting role in every game. Needs to improve
Predicted formation: 4-2-3-1 – On a European night where so much is at stake, will Van Gaal opt for two deeper lying midfielders to offer more protection to his defence?
