Tottenham Hotspur’s Hugo Lloris has insisted new Manchester United signing Anthony Martial has “huge potential to become a great player.”
Martial completed a £36m move to Man United on deadline day, leading to some eyebrows being raised as he is only 19 years old.
However, Lloris, currently away on international duty with Martial for the French national team, is confident the youngster will come good.
“He is a bit shy, but is well involved in the group. He’s going to make his mark, but it’s never easy,” Lloris said.
“We talked a lot about him lately. He has to digest all of that, but he has huge potential.
“I’m sure that tomorrow, or in the future he will serve the national team and continue to grow.
“In any case, he really has huge potential to become a great player. But he must take one step after another.”
Unfortunately, Martial will have to put up with scrutiny of his performances from day one at United thanks to the fee. It puts unfair pressure on him to hit the ground running but Louis van Gaal will be fully aware that the forward will need time to develop and mature as a player.
