Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has insisted he has no regrets over a ‘failed’ move to Manchester United.
The 28-year-old was widely rumoured to replace David De Gea should he have left the club for Real Madrid. However, an 11th hour breakdown of the transfer, followed by the Spaniard’s decision to renew his contract, has effectively ended speculation linking Lloris with United.
The Nice-born goalkeeper has continued at Spurs for the time being, who lie in 12th position in the Premier League after a mixed start to the season.
Speaking about the potential of a transfer, the goalkeeper has revealed he is unconcerned to have not left Tottenham during the summer.
He said: “I feel very good. The transfer window does not upset me. I kept a certain distance, so I was focused on my preparation with Tottenham, I am happy to string together matches with my club.
“The interest of Manchester United? There could have been a development but there was none. Although much has been written I must stay focused.”
If De Gea would have left United, then many people saw Lloris as an ideal replacement for the Spanish international. The fact the club were reportedly prepared to enter into negotiations with Daniel Levy to secure the Frenchman’s signature speaks volumes about how highly he is rated throughout Old Trafford.
However, regardless of the player’s quality, every United supporter is relieved De Gea has decided to continue with the club, a player who could prove to be vital if United are to challenge for the title this year.
