PSV Eindhoven boss Phillip Cocu: Luke Shaw injury was ‘unfortunate’

PSV Eindhoven coach Phillip Cocu has insisted the club are “sad” to hear about Luke Shaw’s horror injury.

Shaw suffered a double fracture of his right leg following a crunching challenge from PSV’s Hector Moreno.

The youngster underwent surgery in Eindhoven hours after the incident and he is expected to be out of action for around six months.

Cocu expressed his sympathy for Shaw and insisted that it is “never the intention” of his players to purposely injure an opponent.

“We are sad about the very bad injury to Luke Shaw. It is never the intention of PSV to injure an opposing player. It’s very unfortunate,” Cocu said.

Shaw’s injury is desperately unlucky as he had started the season brilliantly having put in some extra fitness work over the summer. He will be surrounded by world-class support from Man United’s medical team and the hope is that he is not out of action for too long.
