Nani joined Man United from Sporting Lisbon back in 2007 with high expectations from fans following some impressive performances in Portugal.
However, the 28-year-old was dropped by Sir Alex Ferguson in his final season at the club and he failed to re-establish himself under either of David Moyes or Louis van Gaal, who eventually sold him to Fenerbahce this summer.
While Nani is often the butt of jokes amongst many football fans, United fans will know that on his day, the Portuguese international was virtually unplayable and he was a pivotal figure to the club’s successes in 2010/11 where he contributed ten goals and 15 assists in all competitions.
Despite Nani’s departure from Old Trafford, the club is still stocked with a number of quality dribblers, and it is hard to believe that United are a weaker team without the Portuguese’s presence.
If United are to challenge on all fronts this season, the creativity and technical ability of players such as Martial, Mata and Memphis will undoubtedly prove to be vital in any potential title charge.
