The Spaniard returned to the Man United starting line up after recovering from injury and justified Louis van Gaal‘s decision to throw him straight into the deep end. Herrera notched a goal and an assist for Wayne Rooney to help his side get back on track in the Premier League.
Herrera was unavailable for United’s trip to Arsenal before the international break, when they put in a dismal performance, losing 3-0. His return to the side coincided with a brilliant display to keep United within touching distance of Manchester City at the top of the table.
United supporters were delighted to have Herrera back in action and made their feelings known:
Herrera just adds a new dimension to the midfield, so much more direct and he comes and collects the ball and actually passes it forward

Whatever the system and whatever the exact make up of the team: MUFC's way forward must include Herrera.

Everything is always so much better when Herrera plays.

Every time Manchester United play well it's when Ander Herrera is on the pitch. His movement is unreal, opens up space for the rest #MUFC

Ander Herrera with an assist and a goal. It's almost as if he's really, really good at football.

Herrera started in the No.10 role and barely put a foot wrong as United got off to a quick start with Morgan Schneiderlin giving them the lead. Herrera’s header doubled the advantage before a perfectly weighted pass from the 26-year-old played in Wayne Rooney to make it three.
It was a truly efficient performance from the visitors, who needed a reaction after the capitulation at the Emirates Stadium last week. They will want to go on a run now with tough fixtures coming up, including a tricky trip to Moscow to face CSKA in the Champions League in midweek.
