On his return to the team, Herrera was outstanding and his goal and assist were absolutely deserved because he was one of the best players on the pitch.
With Herrera back in the team, Man United had a much better tempo. Passing was quicker, decisions were taken faster and United’s cumbersome attack had some real fire injected into it which has been missing a lot of times this season.
LVG on Herrera – It's difficult to drop him, but I can do it

So, after all that, to hear van Gaal say he can in theory drop Herrera isn’t what fans want to hear. Yes Louis, hypothetically you could drop Herrera but there would be no logic behind that decision. Even with Wayne Rooney down in the dumps, van Gaal didn’t say such a thing about him.
It was no coincidence that United were so much better in attack with Herrera in the side and he should be starting every game when fit. With CSKA Moscow and Manchester City games to come in the next week, United fans will definitely want to see Herrera in the starting XI on both occasions.
