Niall Quinn believes Cristiano Ronaldo would be risking “everything” if he was to rejoin Manchester United.
Louis van Gaal recently confirmed his interest in bringing Ronaldo back to Old Trafford, with Paris Saint-Germain also said to be interested in his services.
The Portuguese has reportedly suffered from a breakdown in his relationship with Madrid manager Rafael Benitez and is ready to leave the Bernabeu. However, former Manchester City and Sunderland striker Quinn insisted Ronaldo may come to regret it if he rejoins Man United.
“There is a risk,” Quinn said.
“The commercial guys would love it but I think his longevity staying at the top of his game for as long as possible would be better served by staying at Real Madrid.
“If he comes to United, he’s putting everything at risk.
“Stats will tell you, doing it for a second time at a club is difficult.”
United are not the club they were when Ronaldo left and there is a sense that he would have to adapt all over again if he was to come back.
However, United’s struggles up top have been well documented this season. Ronaldo could be the final piece of the jigsaw when it comes to everything ‘clicking’ and United becoming a top team again. Time will tell if Ronaldo does come back to Manchester, although a transfer will require a huge amount of work if it is to come off.
