Cristiano Ronaldo will leave Real Madrid this summer if Karim Benzema is sold by the Spanish club, according to El Confidencial.
Benzema is currently embroiled in a sex-tape scandal involving France teammate Mathieu Valbuena which is causing all sorts of problems off the field.
The striker is being threatened with jail time and Madrid would reportedly offload him should the situation come to that.
Ronaldo has a good relationship with Benzema and he would want to continue playing alongside him elsewhere if he left Madrid.
The Portuguese star has been flirting with a move away from Madrid for years, with Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United said to be interested, but nothing has ever materialised up until this point.
It is doubtful that Ronaldo would want to leave Madrid purely because of Benzema’s off-field issues but it does appear that he is coming to the end of his career at the Bernabeu. Louis van Gaal recently discussed his interest in Ronaldo and with United in need of a goalscoring attacker, there aren’t many better than Ronaldo in world football – but the question of whether he’s the right person to sign is something different altogether.
