Newcastle United’s Ayoze Perez has admitted it is “incredible” to be linked with a move to Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.
Perez, who scored a dramatic late winner against Spurs last weekend, has impressed for Newcastle this season.
He is said to be one of a number of targets for Man United ahead of the January transfer window, with the likes of Riyad Mahrez and Sadio Mane also rumoured to be on the club’s radar. Perez insisted he is flattered by the reports but that he is “very happy” at Newcastle.
“I just know the same as you. What I hear, what I read… It is a great pleasure for me [to be linked with Tottenham and United],” he said.
“It is incredible, something very big and that’s because I’m doing well but I must go on. It’s my job.
“I am very happy at Newcastle. They gave me everything, they made me professional.
“I want to continue working with them, trying to climb on the table and then whatever have to happens will happen.”
You get the sense that the January transfer window will be a crucial one for United as they look to make something of their quickly deteriorating season.
United’s problems up top have been well documented and they are in dire need of a creative spark going forward. Whoever United are targeting, it is likely that they will have to pay a premium as clubs look to avoid losing their star assets mid-season.
