Diego Forlan believes under pressure Louis van Gaal cannot afford to deliver another unsuccessful season at Manchester United.
Van Gaal is currently facing scrutiny at Old Trafford having suffered back to back defeats against Wolfsburg and Bournemouth.
Man United are fourth in the Premier League, six points behind leaders Leicester City, but they are without a win in their last five matches in all competitions. Forlan, who played for United between 2002 and 2004, insisted van Gaal needs to turn things around and quickly.
“He is under pressure at the moment, he’s not winning, and he’s knocked out of the Champions League”, Forlan said.
“He needs to get results because another year for Manchester United without results will end badly.”
Anything less than three points against Norwich City this weekend would ramp up the pressure on van Gaal, particularly given Jose Mourinho’s sacking by Chelsea on Thursday and Pep Guardiola’s rumoured availability.
Considering the amount of money the Dutchman has spent at the club since taking over, results simply haven’t been good enough. With reports of discontent among the squad also appearing in recent days, it may be time for United to consider letting van Gaal go.
