Bastian Schweinsteiger is likely to start for Manchester United in this weekend’s FA Cup tie against Sheffield United.
The veteran midfielder has been working hard in training this week alongside his Man United team-mates and as it’s such an important game for Louis van Gaal, I’m expecting him to put out a very strong team on Saturday.
With that in mind, Schweinsteiger is the perfect player to bring some experience and composure into the middle of the park against Sheffield. As they will be so fired up for the game, we’ll need some level headed players on the pitch making sure we stay in control.

Schweinsteiger himself will be keen to play as well having only just returned from a three match ban to play in the Swansea game at the weekend. I’d be surprised to see him go back out of the side having only just returned into it.
This season has seen Schweinsteiger have big moments like his winner against Watford but equally so there have been lows like his performance away to Wolfsburg. So, while Paul Scholes’ criticism of the German midfielder was considered harsh by some when he said he had underperformed this season, I do think we should be seeing him take more control of games.
In that sense, the Sheffield United game is the perfect opportunity for Schweinsteiger to show that side to his game because we’re certainly in need of some real leaders right now with everything that’s going on at the club.
