Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson believes Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo would not want to play for Manchester United.
Man United, who have been criticised following some meek attacking displays this term, have been linked with big money moves for the Real Madrid duo in recent months.
However, Lawrenson insisted that United have no chance of signing either Ronaldo or Bale.
Speaking after United’s 1-0 win over Liverpool on Sunday, Lawrenson said: “It does make me laugh when they say we’re going to sign Ronaldo, we’re going to sign Bale – they wouldn’t go and play for Man United.
“[They would be] starved. They wouldn’t get any chances. Ronaldo, he wouldn’t have a hissy fit would he?”
United may be struggling to score goals this season but they still managed to come away from Anfield with all three points. Funny, that.
Wayne Rooney has come to the fore in recent weeks but it is clear that United need a proven, world-class forward to take the team to the next level. It may not be Ronaldo or Bale – particularly as Madrid have been hit with a transfer ban – but there is no reason why United cannot attract a player of similar stature. After all, United signed Angel di Maria last season despite the fact that they were not in the Champions League.
