Will Keane scored another two goals for Manchester United’s U21s on Monday night to take his tally to five goals in his last appearances at that level.
The 23-year-old was recalled from his loan at Preston North End by Louis van Gaal in order to boost Man United’s options in attack and he’s showed some brilliant finishing over the last two games.
Keane also set-up Adnan Januzaj‘s second goal against Southampton U21s which showed that his game was about more than just goals, which is always a good asset to have.
Given that van Gaal brought Keane back to boost his attacking options, there’s no way he can simply ignore his superb form for the U21s. Five goals in two games is a fantastic return and certainly sends a message to van Gaal that Keane is ready for his chance with the first-team.
I’d love to see Keane get that chance. Before James Wilson broke onto the scene, it was Keane who tore up the U21s before a cruciate ligament injury put an end to his rapid progress. He was so exciting to watch and so consistent in front of goal, something he looks to be re-finding.
With that sort of form, Keane surely has to be in the squad to play Southampton? If he does get that chance, he’ll be chomping at the bit to make the most of his chance and make sure van Gaal can’t simply push him out of his plans again.
