Anthony Martial is understandably in a chirpy mood after his fantastic performance in Manchester United’s 3-1 win over Derby County.
The 20-year-old Frenchman was in unstoppable form up against a Championship defence and his two assists earned him a deserved man of the match award.
Although many feel Martial’s best position is as a centre-forward, he is so exciting to watch out on the left-wing as well that it’s easy to see why Louis van Gaal is playing him there as well.
With Wayne Rooney back among the goals and really finding a good run of goalscoring form, he deserves to be starting up front and if Martial can play like that out on the left-wing, we’ll reap the rewards with all the square balls he puts into the box.
Something I do want to see more is a real desire from our other players to get into better positions in the box for Martial and to get on the end of his crosses as well. Had that happened against Derby, Martial would have almost certainly had more than two assists to his name.
With Stoke on Tuesday, I expect to see Martial stay out on the left wing and if he can put in the same level of performance which he did against Derby, he’ll be hard to stop.
