David de Gea left Pride Park with a big grin on his face on Friday night after Manchester United’s convincing 3-1 win over Derby on Friday night.
His compatriot Juan Mata shared an embrace after full-time and the little Spaniard got on the score sheet to seal the game with Man United’s third goal, so he had plenty of reason to smile as well – not least for the fact that it saved what was an overall quite disappointing performance.
Although De Gea will be frustrated not to have kept a clean sheet, United going through was the most important thing and he had a special message of thanks to our travelling fans.
Writing on his official Twitter account, De Ge said: “To the next #FACup round. Good game, top supporters! Thanks and safe way back to home.”

De Gea’s been by far and away our best player over the last few years but he’s got nothing to show for it in terms of silverware, which is a real shame, and if United are to have any chance of keeping him at the club for another summer, winning the FA Cup would at least show him we’re challenging for trophies once again.
