Regan Poole fact-file: Man United’s young Welsh defender

Manchester United named their squad for the Europa League on Thursday and there were a couple of surprise inclusions in there. Regan Poole was one of them.

Not many Man United fans know much about the young Welshman, so here’s 10 quick facts to fill you in.

1. Poole was signed by United during the summer from Welsh side Newport County.

2. He was born in 1997 and came through Cardiff City’s academy.

3. He had only made 16 appearances for Newport County before he was signed by United.

4. He made his first appearance on the bench for United last week having finally been given his international clearance.

5. He has already trained with United’s first-team this season.

6. His natural position is as a central defender.

7. Aged 16 days and 94 days, Poole became the youngest player to play for Newport’s first-team in a match against Shrewsbury who are United’s FA Cup fifth-round opponents.

8. He was nominated for the Welsh Young Player of the Year award but was beaten to the award by Cardiff City’s Tommy O’Sullivan.

9. Regan had a trial at Liverpool but always had his heart set on his dream club United.

10. He is a massive United fan.
