Manchester United and Manchester City are interested in signing Southampton forward Sadio Mane this summer, according to reports.
The Senegalese international has registered three goals and six assists in 25 league appearances for St Mary’s this season in the Premier League.
Mane has been irreplaceable in Ronald Koeman’s team since joining from Red Bull Salzburg in 2014 but there are doubts as to whether he fits into Koeman’s new-found system.
Man United tried last summer to sign Mane but failed and it wouldn’t surprise me to see them following up on their interest, especially given that only Anthony Martial has excelled on the wings for us this season.
What Martial has shown is how important pace on the wings is for United and how much we still need it. Memphis Depay will hopefully come good next season and offer us another option but Antonio Valencia‘s best days are behind him and Ashley Young is only really suitable as a squad player.
Mane won’t be the only player who both United and City are linked to over the next 12 months and when it does come down to choosing between the two, it will be interesting to see if City are considered a far better option by players.
