Edinson Cavani’s father has revealed he’d like to see his son play for Manchester United, Real Madrid or Juventus.
The Uruguayan striker has had to play second fiddle to Zlatan Ibrahimovic during his time at Paris St Germain but came up with the all important winner against Chelsea during their Champions League tie this week.
Cavani is not happy in that position and his father wants him to thrive somewhere in a central striking role which he is more naturally suited to.
“PSG bought him to play at the pinnacle of the attack, but Edi plays on the wing. He’s not happy in that position,” Luis Cavani told Sport 5.
“He can’t help his team like he wants to.
“As long as Zlatan is there, he will play in the centre. It’s obviously clear that Edi would be more effective in the middle and would profit from the numerous crosses from his teammates. Edi was born to score. I’d like to see him play for Real Madrid, Manchester United or Juventus.”
Zlatan’s contract expires during the summer so there is every chance he is going to leave the Paris based club but if he doesn’t then Cavani may well consider a move elsewhere.
One thing is for sure – United need a new striker in the summer, at least one, and players like Cavani and Ibrahimovic are inevitably going to be looked at.
Whether we get either remains to be seen but with a real necessity to strengthen the squad, plus Louis van Gaal probably leaving and Jose Mourinho potentially coming in, United are going to be the centre of attention in what is likely to be another hectic summer.
