Will Keane suffers groin injury against Shrewsbury

Will Keane suffered a cruel groin injury only ten minutes after coming on for Manchester United against Shrewsbury tonight.

The 23-year-old striker replaced Anthony Martial in the second half but immediately pulled up holding his groin after crashing a shot against the post.

Keane may well not have warmed up properly or the slick pitch could have caused a problem but regardless of how it happened, it’s such bad luck for a player who has spent the last two years working his way back to fitness.

With Wayne Rooney already out for the best part of two months, if Keane has indeed suffered a groin problem then we will have Anthony Martial as our only option in attack.

That may well see James Wilson get re-called from his loan spell at Brighton & Hove Albion or we could see the likes of Marcus Rashford promoted from the academy.

Either way, seeing Keane in pain on the floor is a sight which brings back memories for me as a fan so I hate to think how Keane is feeling.

Hopefully his withdrawal was only a precaution and he is OK for the upcoming games against FC Midtjylland and Arsenal.
