Rashford was only included in the starting XI at Old Trafford following a late injury to Anthony Martial during the warm-up but the 18-year-old didn’t let the occasion faze him as he scored twice on the night.
Scholes was full of praise for Rashford following the clash while speaking with BT Sport.
“That’s probably as good as we’ve seen Old Trafford for some time,” Scholes said.
“This club is all about bringing through young players and we’ve seen a special debut. Hopefully he can kick on now for his career.”
United’s troubles have been well documented this season but Rashford’s brace reminded supporters of what the club is all about; putting faith in youngsters to deliver attacking football.
Louis van Gaal has taken his fair share of criticism this term, and deservedly so, but his handling of young players while at the club has been exemplary. If Martial does not recover in time for Sunday, Rashford may well be finding himself in the team to face Arsenal this weekend.
