Juan Mata singles out Marcus Rashford for special praise

Juan Mata has insisted that everyone at Manchester United is “very happy” for Marcus Rashford following his two-goal debut in the 3-2 win over Arsenal on Sunday.

Rashford scored a brace and created another at Old Trafford as Man United secured a memorable victory.

The display capped an excellent week for Rashford, who scored another two goals against FC Midtjylland on Thursday. Mata was full of praise for the 18-year-old.

“Everybody wants to participate in a match like this, full of tension and against a big rival. And it’s because of this kind of games that I love football so much,” Mata wrote in his blog.

“With such a good team performance it’s never fair to highlight this or that player, but of course all of us are very happy for Marcus.

“He’s played just a few minutes with the first team and has already scored very important goals, showing his great potential and giving us a hint of the bright future that I’m sure he has and that I wish to him.

“Besides, the club’s tradition and its connection with the Academy is making the fans proud of the great moment that Marcus and other team-mates are living, for they can see that the work with the young players is being rewarded…”

As far as storylines go, it doesn’t get much better than Rashford’s rise to prominence.

The young Mancunian has wasted no time in introducing himself to United fans, scoring some excellent goals to propel himself into the spotlight in the space of just one week. It’s been an excellent start from the youngster but Louis van Gaal will undoubtedly remind him that he has a lot of work yet to do.
