Regan Poole withdrawn from Wales Duty ahead of Liverpool

Regan Poole has been withdrawn from the Wales U19s squad this week ahead of Manchester United’s clash against Liverpool.

The 17-year-old only made his Man United debut against FC Midtjylland but with our injury problems, it looks like he is going to continue holding his place in the first-team squad.

A statement read: “Manchester United defender Regan Poole has been withdrawn from the Wales squad due to club commitments as his club prepares to face Liverpool in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday, 10 March.”

Having only got his international clearance at the start of February, Poole has been accelerated through to United’s first-team. It’s certainly a faster start to his career than he could have imagined but having scored his first goal this week in the Manchester Senior Cup against Oldham Athletic, his confidence will be starting to build.

Daley Blind has played 11 consecutive full games for United and desperately needs a rest, so it wouldn’t surprise me to see him replaced by either Marcos Rojo or Timothy Fosu-Mensah. However, if injuries dictate it, Poole is in line to make full United debut in our first ever European clash against Liverpool – it doesn’t come much bigger than that.
