Nick Powell suffers hamstring injury during Hull City training session

Steve Bruce has confirmed Nick Powell suffered a hamstring injury during training this week and said there was no chance he would play this weekend.

The 21-year-old midfielder joined Hull City on loan in January having just about recovered from a fresh injury he sustained at Manchester United very soon after his return from a long injury lay-off.

It’s another cruel blow for Powell who has had no end of injury problems over the last two years and that trend has unfortunately continued on loan at Hull.

“Robert Snodgrass tweaked a groin yesterday crossing a ball and then Nick Powell felt his hamstring at the start of the warm-up,” Bruce told reporters this week.

“Shaun Maloney twisted his ankle on the day before the Arsenal game and then we’ve got Ryan Taylor, who’s had an ingrowing toenail that’s needed to be removed.

“It’s hard to see any of them making any of the three games this week.”

When it comes to hamstring injuries, precaution is everything so hopefully for Powell his withdrawal from training was just about making sure he didn’t aggravate a real problem but he definitely isn’t getting much luck with injuries at all.

I see this loan spell as Powell’s last opportunity to really show he can put his fitness problems behind him and stake a claim to a spot in Man United’s squad. Unfortunately for him, he’s had the worst possible start in that respect.

We’ll see how his develops for Powell at Hull over the coming weeks but he’s definitely going to miss their next game by the sounds of it at the very least.
