Louis van Gaal insists Manchester United ‘have to cope’ with busy schedule

Louis van Gaal has insisted that his Manchester United players simply have to deal with their busy schedule following the 1-1 draw against Liverpool in the Europa League on Thursday.

Man United were dumped out of Europe 3-1 on aggregate after a disappointing draw against Liverpool at Old Trafford.

It was a dismal evening for United but they will have little time to dwell on the result as they prepare to face Manchester City in the derby on Sunday.

“We have to cope with it. We have to recover again after this match,” van Gaal said.

“The players have given everything – more than everything, I think – but still we have to play against Manchester City and they have one [recovery] day more. But that was also the case against Arsenal and we beat them, so we have to believe in it.”

United have been dismal for the large majority of the campaign and it has almost got to the point where supporters are expecting poor results.

Van Gaal’s slow, turgid style of football has no place at Old Trafford and it is remarkable how he is still in a job. He should have gone months ago and had he left sooner, United might have rescued their campaign.
