David Beckham has praised Marcus Rashford following the youngster’s winning goal in Manchester United’s 1-0 win over Manchester City on Sunday.
Rashford, aged just 18, scored the only goal of the game as Man United secured a big three points in the race to finish in the top four of the Premier League.
Beckham, who won a number of trophies at United during his playing days, described Rashford’s rise to prominence as “refreshing and pleasing to see”:
When a young kid that loves the club he is at and loves the game he is playing this is what you get… The excitement in Marcus's face after scoring against our rivals is exactly what a kid his age should look like… It's refreshing and pleasing to see… Congrats to Marcus on another great day @manchesterunited
Rashford has certainly enjoyed a blistering start to life at Old Trafford and it is hard not to get swept up by the romanticism of a young Mancunian flourishing in the first team.
However, it is important that the youngster keeps his feet on the ground.
There will inevitably be comparisons made and Rashford’s talents may be overhyped. It might be easy for him to get carried away but Rashford seems to have a sensible head on his shoulders and he will no doubt work hard to keep his place in the team.
