Rashford has scored five goals in eight games since his debut for Man United last month, with his most recent strike coming in the 1-0 victory over Manchester City on Sunday.
The youngster has earned rave reviews for his performances but Lingard insisted that Rashford isn’t the type of person to get too carried away.
“Marcus is grounded,” Lingard said.
“He has to keep his feet on the ground and I have told him that already. But I have just told him not to overhype things because he has done well and everybody is really happy for him. He doesn’t go out and doesn’t drink. He is not one of the lads to start going out and get a big head. He has always been a hard worker.”
Rashford’s story is a remarkable one and it is hard not to get swept up by the romanticism of a young Mancunian scoring goals for the first team, particularly in the derby.
However, it is encouraging to hear Lingard say that Rashford will stay grounded. He still has a lot of work to do if he is to keep his place in the first team in the coming years.
