Valencia have held talks with Jose Mourinho with a view to the Portuguese replacing Gary Neville at the Mestalla Stadium, according to reports.
Neville was sacked as manager of Valencia this week after just four months in charge, with the Spanish side 14th in the La Liga table.
Neville’s assistant, Pako Ayestaran, has stepped up as a temporary replacement but Valencia have reportedly been in discussions with Mourinho for over a month.
Valencia owner Peter Lim is said to be ready to give Mourinho up to £15m-per-year and a £100m transfer budget.
Mourinho had been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United in the event of Louis van Gaal’s sacking but The Independent claim that there has been no offer arranged between the two parties.
If the reports are true and Mourinho does end up at Valencia, it would be a grave oversight on Man United’s part. Mourinho is a proven winner while van Gaal has zapped the team of confidence over the course of the campaign.
