Jose Mourinho’s agent, Jorge Mendes, is expected to speak to Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward this week to seek assurances that his client will become the next manager of the club, according to the Manchester Evening News.
Louis van Gaal is under pressure at Man United but reports in recent days suggested the Dutchman is confident of being at the helm next season.
Mourinho had previously been considered to be the front-runner to replace van Gaal at Old Trafford at the end of the campaign and he is said to be ‘rattled’ by the rumours.
Woodward has been strengthening his relationship with Mendes since he assumed the role of executive vice-chairman in 2013 and the pair will speak this week.
It looked for all the world that Mourinho would be taking over at the end of the campaign but the story about van Gaal complicated things.
It’s safe to say that another season of van Gaal wouldn’t go down well among fans as United have been largely awful over the course of the campaign.
