Louis van Gaal plays all four attackers out of position against Spurs

Louis van Gaal does things his own way and we don’t always agree with it but his latest move against Tottenham Hotspur was truly baffling.

Marcus Rashford came off at half-time for Ashley Young, that was strange but we’ve scratched our heads at plenty of substitutions. What followed was madness.

Young went up front for the first time since he played there against LA Galaxy in the 2014 pre-season tour while Martial stayed out on the left-wing. Lingard kept his role as the No.10 and Mata stayed out at right-wing. All four attackers out of position when they could all play in their favoured roles. Madness, and United fans knew it.

The outcome of the game is irrelevant when it comes to things like this. What must the players be thinking when they’re getting forced to be square pegs in round holes completely unnecessarily? At times players need to adapt to different roles when the right players aren’t available but I can’t see why he would do it willingly.

For all of the strange things I’ve seen van Gaal do this season, this is right up there with the weirdest of them.
